First Investment Group

The First Investment Group is the investment arm of First National Bank Omaha. Fifteen professionals with over 95 years of financial services experience and ten Chartered Financial Analyst designations among them, provide investment management services for equity, fixed income and balanced accounts. First Investment Group manages over $2.5 billion in assets for institutional and individual clients.

Philosophy

We believe that a conservative investment program that surrenders some performance in strong markets while protecting principal in weak markets will produce attractive long-term returns with below-average risk. The First Investment Group manages both large-capitalization and small capitalization equity portfolios under the guidelines of a well-defined investment philosophy with three basis tenets:

1. We are long-term investors. We prefer to hold an investment for three to five years at a minimum. As a result, the turnover of our portfolios generally is lower than many of our peers.
2. We are a value-oriented manager, focusing on established companies with solid or improving fundamentals. Because we are value-oriented, we are intent on buying stocks that we believe are currently undervalued in the marketplace.
3. Our style is bottom-up, with a focus on individual security selection. While we incorporate economic and industry-level information into our investment process, the primary focus of our analysis is on the investment merits of the individual company. We use both qualitative and quantitative factors to select appropriate securities for our portfolios.
