• Does First National accept direct deposits?

  Yes, First National does accept direct deposits. For more information, please visit our Direct Deposit page within Make A Deposit.

• How is interest calculated on my checking account?

  Interest compounds and is credited to your account monthly based on your statement cycle.

• Can I add a joint owner to my account?

  Yes. If you would like to add a joint owner to your account, Contact Us.

• How can I make deposits into my account?

  There are many convenient ways you can deposit money into your First National checking account. These options include:

  • Mail us a check.
  • Set up an automatic direct deposit into your account.
  • Wire funds into your account.
  • Transfer funds from another institution.
  • Transfer funds from an existing First National account.
  • Advance funds from your credit card.
  • Visit a branch nearest you.

  Note: There may be a delay in fund availability when deposits are made by debiting your account at another institution. Funds will be available on the next business day for local banks and in 5 business days for non-local banks.

• How long before my deposit will post to my account?

  Your deposits sent via direct deposit, ACH or transferred from another First National account, generally post to the account on the same business day they are submitted. It is not possible for us to determine how long it will take to receive deposits sent via U.S. mail. All deposits will post on the business day in which they are received. We do recommend that customers verify their account balances prior to initiating any debit transactions.

• How can I withdraw funds from my account?

  There are several easy and convenient ways you can access funds from your First National accounts.

  • Write a check.
  • Use your Visa Check Card.
  • Wire transfer funds.
  • Visit any of the 957,000 PLUS System or NETs ATMs.
  • Use First National Online.
  • Visit a branch nearest you.

  Any applicable fees will be billed to your account.

• Can I reorder checks online?

  Yes. To reorder checks online use our Online Check Reorder Form within Account Services. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.

• Can I order more deposit slips and envelopes?

  Yes, we provide deposit slips and envelopes for all deposit accounts. To order, simply use our online form located within the Account Services section. A fee will apply when ordering deposit slips. Contact Us via email or phone if you have additional questions prior to placing your order.

• Will I still receive a statement for my checking account in the mail?

  First National sends a monthly statement on all checking accounts. If you do not receive your monthly statement, Contact Us.

• Can I order a copy of a past statement?

  To order a copy of a past statement online, use our Online Form within Account Services. You will need to provide us with the statement To and From date. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.*

• Can I order a copy of a check?

  Check images can be viewed up to eighteen months. To view your check images go to the Account Detail section. To order a copy of a check not available online, use our Online Form within Account Services. You will need to provide us the check number, amount and date written. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.*

• How do I stop payment on a check?

  A stop payment is a time-sensitive matter. The most efficient way to place a stop payment is to Contact Us.

• What is Check 21?

  Check 21 was implemented "to improve the overall efficiency of the nation's payments system." Today, most checks must be physically transported - whether across town or across the country - before they can be cleared. Check 21 provides a new option: legal acceptance of paper reproductions of original checks. This reproduction is called a "substitute check" and is produced from a digital image of the original check.

• What is a substitute check?

  A substitute check is a legally sanctioned document, with all the rights and obligations as the original check written from your checkbook. Substitute checks are paper copies created from electronic images of original paper checks (front and back, with all endorsements). Each substitute check also includes a statement identifying it as a legal copy of the original check.

• How will Check 21 affect me?

  If you currently receive your canceled checks in your monthly statement, or if you view images of them online, you may begin seeing substitute checks.

• Do you return my canceled checks?

  Because of the provisions of the Check 21 legislation, original paper items will not be available in many cases. To give customers the most flexibility, First National gives customers the following options:

  Check Truncation - No physical or images of canceled checks are returned in statement.
  Check Images - Images of canceled checks are printed as part of the statement. This option may not be available for all products.
  Items Returned - Paper items (original and substitute checks) will be returned in your statement. This option may not be available for all products and an associated fee may apply.

• Do you offer overdraft protection on checking accounts?

  Yes. First National offers several different overdraft protection plans for your checking accounts. For more information regarding lines of credit, please refer to the Products pages. You can apply for overdraft protection when applying for your checking account or Contact Us to apply.

• What is the difference between a Visa Check Card and an ATM Card?

  Both the Visa Check Card and the ATM Card give you access to your checking or savings account from any PLUS System or NETS ATM. But a Visa Check Card gives your checking account increased spending power. You can make purchases at merchants simply by presenting your card and signing the receipt - the amount is deducted from your account. And the purchase is protected with Visa's Zero Liability policy. No more hassling with cash or writing checks. 

• What if I need to change my address?

  To change your address, Contact Us. 

• How many statements can I view online?

  You can view up to seven years of past statements online.

• What type of Email Alerts are available on my Checking Account(s)?

  There are two types of email alerts that you may request to receive on the Account Alerts page for your checking account(s). Learn more about Priority Alerts.

• Can I sign up to receive eStatements for my Checking Account(s)?

  Yes, you can sign up to receive eStatements on your checking account(s) and stop receiving paper statements in the mail. An email notification will be sent to you each month when your statement is available to view online. Learn more about eStatements.
