For over 150 years, family-owned First National Bank has played a significant role in the economic and cultural growth of Omaha. When the bank started planning their new corporate headquarters in 1999, they set aside two city blocks to give downtown Omaha some much needed green space. A nationwide search was begun for sculptures, landscape architects, engineers and consultants. Initial reactions were to create two different sculpture parks, considering the two blocks weren't in any way adjacent. Given this unique challenge, the team of artists and planners pushed the limits of their creativity and imagined two separate sculpture parks working to form a larger whole. That was the genesis of Pioneer Courage and Spirit of Nebraska's Wilderness sculpture parks. The result is one of the largest and most unique bronze sculptures in the country.
